DESCRIPTION

The American Red Cross General Water Safety course is designed to make participants aware of the importance of water safety training and provide them with general information about being safe in, on or around the water.

This PQAS Approved course meets the annual DPW Water Safety requirement under 55 Pa. Code Chapter § 3270.115(a)(8), see PA OCDEL Bureau of Certification Services Announcement C-14 #01.

Students will learn how to recognize general pool and water play hazards and safety. Participants will understand the policies and procedures to ensure water safety in child care programs. A CPR course must be attended in addition to this course if participants will be supervising children at a pool setting.

In Person: 1 hour

Anyone working at childcare facilities in Pennsylvania who supervise children when swimming.

Prerequisites

None.

REQUIREMENTS

Participants must:

  • Attend and participate in all class sessions.
  • Actively participate in all course activities and discussions.

certification

Upon successful completion, participants will be issued a digital certificate by email from the American Red Cross that is valid for 2 years.
